“For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God.” Psalm 86:10 (NKJV)
There is a favorite hymn called, “It is Well with My Soul.” Did you know that the exact words, “It is well with my soul,” are not in the Bible? (However, there is a verse in 2 Kings, KJV translation, that says, “It is well.”) The hymn is inspired by other Scriptures about the peace that only Jesus can bring. Life may not always go our way, and there may be bumps and even tragedies along the way, but there are also times of joy, laughter, and love.
In Genesis we read, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Along with the rest of creation, on the sixth day, when
people were made in the image of God, we read, “God saw all that He made, and it was very good.”
My mom used to use Bible verses as replies to people. For example, when someone would ask her, “How are you?” she would answer, “It is well with my soul,” or “Not well, but God is good.” Back then, it was kind of embarrassing for me when she’d say this to a bank teller or a restaurant server. But now that I have grown more spiritually, I understand how God’s Word can be expressed differently through us all.
Even though our life experiences may be different from others, if we have a close relationship with the Lord, He will put things on
our hearts to say or to do. Let’s listen to His voice because we may be good, or well, or not well at the time . . . but God is great!
