“Therefore, it was necessary for Him to be made in every respect like us, His brothers and sisters, so that He could be our merciful and
faithful High Priest before God.” Hebrews 2:17 (NLT)
The High Priest mentioned in this verse is Jesus! In Philippians 2:6-7 it says, “Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up His divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form . . .” (NLT)
God humbled Himself and became like one of us. He experienced pain, loneliness, and rejection from those who were close to Him.
Because he deliberately experienced these painful emotions, He is able to understand what we go through and sympathize with us.
There is an old Native saying: “Take the time to walk a mile in his moccasins.” Well, in this case, Jesus walked more than a mile for us.
He walked and carried a cross on His wounded body to Calvary to die on that very cross.
But on the third day He rose from the dead! He is now, as the Bible says, our “merciful and faithful High Priest before God.”
Not only does God understand me fully, but He is more than willing to help me when life gets hard—when I go through times of testing,
He guides me through it. I am not alone—He goes through it with me as my merciful and faithful High Priest, a Priest above all priests.
