“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)
We’re surrounded by choices. I made choices this morning — what to wear and what to eat, how I am going to spend this day, and what kind of mood I am going to face this day with. Everyday living requires choices. Every choice we make is up to us.
I talked with a young lady recently about some of the decisions she was making. She was making some pretty negative choices in the areas of addiction and anger. The repercussions of her decision-making were having hard consequences in her relationships and lifestyle. She didn’t respond to my concerns right away, but later we were able to talk about how her choices were impacting how she interacted and related to others around her. I hope she listened but, then again, that’s her choice.
Practicing godly decision making is not easy. It goes against our naturally selfish ways. The biggest factor that will change our way of
making decisions is getting to know God personally, and letting His Word and His ways influence and determine what we choose.
The way I started making changes in my way of making choices was to start reading God’s Word, the Bible. I started finding out more
and more of His ways and how those principles could guide me in restructuring my thinking and lifestyle.
As my thinking changed, my decision making followed suit and, as my choices improved, my lifestyle changed to reflect more and
more godliness.
Wherever you are in life today, your decision making will ultimately determine your lifestyle. If you allow God’s Word to change your thinking, the choices you make in life will be honoring to the Lord.
