“He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you, But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 (NKJV)
One day in February 2014, my husband, Doug, left for work about 6:00 a.m. I said, “Have a good day. I love you.” After he left I went on with my day, having my morning coffee, cleaning the house, then
going with my sister to do errands and get groceries. I got home about 2:00 pm, put the groceries away, and started planning supper. I cooked supper, then waited for Doug to come home. Time passed, but he still wasn’t home and hadn’t called. I called him but got no answer. It got late, so I put his supper in the fridge and went to bed.
About 3:00 am the phone rang. It was Doug, calling from the hospital. He said, “I rolled the van.” I jumped out of bed, woke up my stepson, and called my nephew for a ride to the hospital. I prayed, “Lord, please help Doug!” When we got to the hospital, I went into his room. I grabbed onto Doug, and prayed, “Thank You, Lord, for saving his life. I will turn to You with all my heart.”
When Doug came home from the hospital, he began reading the Bible. I asked if I could read it with him, and we began reading together. We started to put God first in our lives. Malachi 3:7a (NKJV) spoke to me: “Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My ordinances And have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts.”
Sometimes God uses trials to get our attention. He wants us to return to Him and to stay close.
