“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my
righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
We face choices every single day, every hour. Will I get up, or sleep five more minutes? Will I wear this outfit, or that one? Should I return their phone call, or wait another day? We’re faced with choices constantly. Sometimes they can be life-altering, and we don’t want to
make the wrong decision.
For example, there may be an opportunity for a new position at work, but it will mean more time and responsibility. Or, everything points to a move to a new town across the country, but is this the best thing for my career? Or someone in our family may need new medical therapy but based on lack of funds, can we wait one more month?
Some of the choices we face can appear to have only two options— yes or no. Another way of looking at decisions we make is that we
can choose “trust” or “fear.” No matter what is facing us, we can trust that God is with us, and we don’t have to be afraid. We can choose to remember His promises, His faithfulness, His track record. Or we can fret, worry and fear—and “not add a single hour to our life” by doing so (Luke 12:25-31).
When you feel like your options are limited, or worried about making the wrong decision, take a moment to reflect on the choices: Trust or Fear. God will provide; He will give wisdom; He won’t leave us alone; He will hold us in His hands. And when the time is right, we will have the answers we need. His timeline is trustworthy.
“Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely” (Psalm 139). What do you choose to focus on today? Trust or Fear?
