“Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word; For my eyes have seen Your salvation.”
Luke 2:29-30 (NASB)
These were the words of a man who wanted to see Jesus. It was Simeon, a man to whom the Holy Spirit had revealed that he would
not die until he had seen Jesus. One day the Spirit led Simeon to the temple, and it was there that he knew that he was looking at the Savior of the world!
Jesus was just a baby at the time. There were certain requirements by Jewish law that Joseph and Mary needed to fulfill at the temple in Jerusalem. Luke 2:22-23 reads: “And when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, ‘Every firstborn male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord’).”
Simeon took the baby Jesus in his arms and said, “Now, Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace. According to Your word, for my eyes have seen Your salvation.” What a joyous moment for Simeon, to see the Savior!
January 14, 1994, is when I first met my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. By this, I mean that I put my trust in Jesus to save me from my sins, and to help me to live for Him. He saved me! What a joyous moment it was, and continues to be. It has been 30 years now that I have
been living for Jesus. Praise God for His salvation!
